Re
gister and Make a Consultation Appointment

The first step to growing a great grin begins with you requesting an initial consultation and completing a patient questionarre/medical history form.  This can be done online or at the practice. Make an appointment either online here or phone us on 04 586 5707.

You don’t need a referral from a dental nurse or specialist to come and see us.

When should I see an orthodontist?

We recommend that all children be screened for orthodontic treatment around the age of seven years.

The first visit

At your first visit you will meet the Orthodontist and the team.  We are well aware of the nerves, especially with the younger patients, we put them at ease.

There is no treatment undertaken on a consultation visit.

We will listen carefully to your concerns and what you wish to achieve with orthodontic treatment.  We encourage you to ask as many questions as you like.

Four essential questions to cover during the first visit:

  1. Is there an orthodontic problem, if so when is the best time to correct it?
  2. What options are there to correct the problem?
  3. How long will the treatment take?
  4. How much will it cost?

A thorough examination of your teeth, jaws and face will be done to determine your orthodontic needs. This may include a digital X-ray.

What happens if my child is not ready for any treatment?

Some young patients may not require treatment OR are not ready to begin any orthodontic treatment. These patients will be reviewed at regular intervals to monitor movement of the adult teeth, growth and development of the jaws and face.  During this time, an optimal time frame for treatment can be discussed.

You don’t need a referral from a dental nurse or specialist to come and see us.

Step two: take a set of orthodontic records

We take a full set of orthodontic records.

If your child is ready for orthodontic treatment we will need as much information as possible about the jaws and the teeth  (orthodontic records) so that you can choose the best treatment for your child. A second appointment maybe required to have these records taken.

For example:

  • Digital photographs of the teeth and face
  • OPG or Digital Panoramic Radiographic
  • Digital Lateral Cephalometric Radiographic
  • Impressions for study models of your teeth
  • Three dimensional X-ray of the teeth and jaws (a new technology available at The Orthodontist)
  • Three dimensional Scan of the teeth. (this latest technology uses a camera that takes thousands of images per second and creates a 3D image of the mouth. This alleviates the need for messy impression work

Step three: treatment plan discussion

Your plan to a great grin.

At this visit we will:

  • Show you all of the orthodontic records and explain the features of your bite
  • Discuss the different treatment options for your needs
  • Show you the types of orthodontic appliances available
  • Discuss the treatment fees
  • Discuss the timetable of treatment

We suggest the client, parents/caregivers be present.

Following all of this you will receive a detailed letter outlining all the information discussed, the treatment and payment plan.

Then make your appointment, and you’re on your way to a Great Grin!

We can't wait to make you smile, get in touch!
